Biography of an Arabian Princess

On 30th August 1844, Sayyida Salma bint Said, the youngest child of the powerful Sultan Seyyid Said bin Sultan Al-Busaidi and his Circassian slave, turned Concubine, Jilfidan, was born and spent her early years in the Mtoni Palace, located north of Stone Town on the island of Zanzibar.

Due to her father’s title as the ruler of Oman and Zanzibar, Salma bint Said became known as the Princess of Zanzibar and Oman, which were Arab territories. She was also regarded as the youngest of the sultan’s 36 children.
